Becoming Catholic
Adults, who are interested in learning
more about the Catholic faith and/or possibly joining the Catholic
Church, are invited to inquire through the RCIA process. RCIA stands
for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. This process
consists of spiritual formation, educational sessions, and
preparation for celebrating the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation,
and Eucharist. The usual length of preparation is from one to two
years. The RCIA process begins with the Inquiry or seeking phase,
continues with the Catechumenate or serious study phase, goes on
with the Purification and Enlightenment phase (during Lent), the
celebration of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil, and concludes
with the Mystagogia phase, the leading into the lifelong journey in
the Roman Catholic community.
The Inquiry phase begins in mid-August here at
St. Maria Goretti. RCIA meetings are held on Monday evenings from
7-9PM each week. Mystagogia concludes in May. For more information
contact the Director of Religious Education at (317) 867-3213, ext.
203.
Children, who are interested in joining
the Catholic Church, are invited to inquire through the RCIC
process. RCIC stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of
Children and is similar to RCIA. RCIC is intended for children age
seven to eighth grade. These children have attained the age of
reason and are of catechetical age. The children will receive all of
the Sacraments of Initiation, Baptism (if needed), Confirmation, and
Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.
RCIC meets at various times and days, depending
on the individual families schedules. For more information contact
the Director of Religious Education at (317) 867-3213, ext. 203. |
