The needy of Hamilton County are referred to Shepherd’s Gate Pantry
by several Hamilton County agencies which include Good Samaritan,
Birthright, Healthy Families and County Trustees. Upon receiving
their referral, the pantry gives each family grocery bags filled
with food, plus meat, bread, cleaning supplies and hygiene items,
once a month.
The baby items available through the pantry are cribs and
mattresses, clothing, baby food and formula, also given out by
referral.
During 2009 Shepherd's Gate Pantry served 1,015 families
and gave 54 babies a safe and comfortable place to sleep. These
figures do not include the 165 families we fed through our
Thanksgiving and Christmas food deliveries. 2009 showed a 40%
increase in families needing our assistance and a 50% increase
in babies needing cribs.
All of this is accomplished through your donations to the HELP
collection the last weekend of the month, our monthly food
drive, brown bag Sundays, food drives by various groups within
and outside of our parish, and donations made by individuals.
Approximately 125+ volunteers and their families donate their
time and talents to this very important ministry. Our hours are
3:30 to 5:00pm Monday and Thursday, and 9:30 to 11:00am on
Saturday.
