The mission of Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church is to
extend the kingdom of God by sharing God's love in the church community
through spirit-filled liturgies, religious education, and service to others.
The needy of Hamilton County are referred to our Shepherd’s Gate
Pantry by several Hamilton County agencies which include Good
Samaritan, Birthright, Healthy Families and County Trustees. Upon
receiving their referral, the pantry gives each family grocery bags
filled with food, plus meat, bread, cleaning supplies and various
hygiene items, once a month. The amount they receive depends on the
size of their family.
The baby items available through the pantry are cribs and
mattresses, clothing, baby food, and formula, also given out by
referral. For some of our referring agencies, we are their only
source for these much needed items.
During 2006, Shepherd's Gate Pantry served an average of 53 families
a month, which equates to 636 families or approximately 2,400 people
a year. We also gave 50 babies a safe and comfortable place to
sleep. These figures do not include the 165 families that we fed
through our Thanksgiving and Christmas food deliveries.
All of this is accomplished through your donations to the HELP
collection the last weekend of the month, brown bag Sundays, food
drives by various groups within and outside of our parish, and food
donations made by individuals. The food pantry is manned by
approximately 50 volunteers during our hours of 3:30 to 5:00pm on
Monday and Thursday, and 9:30 to 11am on Saturday.
If you are interested in becoming an occasional Monday or Thursday
afternoon worker please call and leave a message at 867-3213x227 or
