Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy Feast of the Holy Trinity! Even though we went back into Ordinary Time last Monday, for the next couple of weekends we have these special Feast Days that recall God’s great goodness to us. No Feast is better at this, than the Feast of the Holy Trinity that reminds of the great extremes that God went to, to reveal Himself to us, and how He came to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Three Persons, One God! What a great day to celebrate and rejoice!
Another reason to celebrate this weekend, is the arrival of our new summer Seminarian, Rob Geisting. Rob is a native of Rushville, Indiana. He affiliated with our Diocese after finishing his studies at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. St. Bernard Parish in Crawfordsville is his home parish. Rob is twenty-three years old and is a graduate student in theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. We are most proud to welcome Rob to our Parish. I know he is going to fit in well. Look for more information in the coming weeks on Rob’s new adult education series on Prayer in the New Catechism. Please welcome Rob to our Parish and stop by after Mass and say ‘hello’.
We also are celebrating this weekend with our recently Confirmed young people. This past Friday evening, Bishop Higi confirmed thirty-five of our brothers and sisters. We congratulate each of you on receiving this powerful Sacrament. We are proud of you and the seriousness with which you approached this Sacrament. I’d also like to thank the great number of people involved in our Sacramental Preparation Program for Confirmation, especially Connie Anderson, our D.R.E., and Jeff Stankovsky, our youth minister, Leslie Mimms, our volunteer youth coordinator, and the many individuals who served as facilitators, sponsors, presenters, and guide for these young people. It takes an army of people to be serious about this Sacrament. Thanks to Bishop Higi and Monsignor Sell for coming and helping us to celebrate this important Sacrament.
We are also very pleased to be able to announce this weekend, the results of the Spring Fling from a couple of weeks ago. Spring Fling “05 raised just over $130,000. $12,000 is from the “Calling All Angels” paddle solicitation for new computers for our computer lab. But the rest of the money will go towards our new Bell Tower and Adoration Chapel for our new church. This year’s Spring Fling did set records for funds raised, number of people in attendance, and a great time was had by all. Thanks again to everybody who helped and to all who attended and contributed. The need for the Perpetual Adoration Chapel and Bell Tower becomes more and more evident every day. Please don’t forget our Bell Tower and Perpetual Adoration Chapel fund in your monthly giving. Won’t it be great to have Eucharistic Adoration available around the clock! The Perpetual Adoration Chapel will be in the base of the new Bell Tower.
Also, a special note of thanks goes to Dave Duba, a parishioner who was just recently received into the Catholic Church and Confirmed at the Easter Vigil. Dave volunteered to clean the glass in the new church, which was not looking good. Despite two trips from a professional window cleaning service, the glass, especially that on the Westside, looked terrible in the sun. Dave did an outstanding job. The glass is beautiful. Thanks so much for helping us all out, Dave!
Have a great week! Next weekend is the Feast of Corpus Christi!
In Christ,
Fr. Kevin
