Dear
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Welcome as we gather together to celebrate the
Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time! We welcome all of our visitors who are
joining us today, and in a special way, we welcome our new members and
families. We are most grateful to God for bringing you here to our community!
This past Friday evening was our 2009 Fall Festival. What
a great time for all of us! I think that there was something for everybody.
I’d like to thank Jason and Shelly Connell for all of their hard work and time
in chairing this year’s event, and all of those who helped them put it on. Our
community loves to get together with one another and with food and music. At
the Italian Festival this past summer, a visitor from Pennsylvania commented to
me about much our Parish liked to be together. I remember that he said, “You
guys really enjoy being with each other.” He’s right. We do! We just don’t
want to ever forget that it is a lot of work to plan and execute any event for
the whole Parish. Nor do we ever want to forget to thank all of those who make
these celebrations possible.
We continue to look forward to the opening of the
Vatican’s Eucharistic Miracle Exhibit, which will be here at St. Maria Goretti
from Sunday, November 1st,
All Saint’s Day, through Saturday, Nov. 7th.
We are one of the first parishes in Indiana to get to host this traveling
exhibit. The 160 panels will be on display in the church narthex at scheduled
hours. Visitors to the exhibit are asked to enter through the north church
doors. All other church doors will be locked to the outside to facilitate the
progression of the exhibit. The exhibit is free to all. We want everybody to
come and share this amazing opportunity with us. A free-will offering will be
taken up at the end of the exhibit. The Church’s approved Eucharistic Miracles
call all of us to a greater appreciation to the Body and Blood, Soul, and
Divinity of Jesus Christ that is truly present to us in the Holy Eucharist. It
is hard to go to Mass in the same old way AFTER viewing this exhibit. Set aside
some time that first week of November, because it does take a while to read and
examine all 160 of the panels. Because of all of the reading involved and the
vast amount of information, young children would most likely NOT enjoy the
Exhibit. It is not intended for young children.
Another awesome opportunity that we have coming up is
Christopher West’s presentation on the Theology of the Body. St. Maria Goretti
is honored to welcome Mr. West to our Parish for several sessions on Friday
evening, Nov. 13th and
all day on Saturday, Nov. 14th.
Mr. West’s presentations will be our 2009 Marriage Conference. If you are
married, or thinking about getting married, or maybe, like me, marriage is not
part of your plans, or maybe you just happen to have a human body, YOU ARE GOING
TO WANT TO JOIN US FOR CHRISTOPHER WEST’S CONFERENCE!!! Building on the
writings of Pope John Paul II, Mr. West explains to us that there is a better
way of viewing our bodies and our souls, and living as Jesus wants us to while
we are in this world. You’re not going to want to miss this one!
Registrations are coming in from all over the Midwest for this event. And you
don’t have to drive to a nearby state, Christopher West is going to be right
here at YOUR Parish! Sign-up and register now for the 2009 Marriage
Conference. Bishop Higi is even going to be here at the Friday evening
sessions. It’s going to be great!
We continue to encourage ALL St. Maria Goretti families to
get signed up to have their picture taken for our new Pictorial Directory. Many
already have had their picture taken. Many are scheduled this month. But an
awful lot of people still haven’t made their appointment yet to their picture
taken. Please, Please, Please! I know you are as tired of hearing me talk
about this, as I am OF talking about it, but we really need YOU, EVERYBODY, to
sign-up to have your picture taken. If you are a registered member of this
Parish community, we want you in the book. It is as simple as that. You may
like having your picture taken as much as I do, but we still need you to do it.
Please sign-up today.
We are blessed! We are given so many amazing
opportunities! Next Sunday, Oct. 25th,
I am leaving to go on my annual priest retreat. I will be gone until late on
Oct. 31st. Please say an
extra prayer for me while I am on retreat.
In Christ,
Fr. Kevin
