Greetings St. Maria Goretti School Families!
On behalf of our school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), I’d like to welcome you to the 2020-21 school year. Our new board members and I are looking forward to a great year. We had an interesting and unprecedented end to the 2019-20 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time I’m writing this, we are still unsure about what the beginning of our next school year will look like, but I know we will navigate through it together.
On a personal note, I wanted to tell you a few things about myself. I have 2 sons, Andrew (10) and Will (8), who have both attended SMG School since 3’s Preschool with Mrs. Tetrick, Mrs. Breiner and Mrs. Lamb. My husband Dave is the Controller of Stanley Security, is active with SMG sports and loves to coach our boys. I grew up in Kentucky, I love dogs, spending time with my family, and everything Notre Dame (where Dave & I went to school and were married). I am a nurse who worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Cardiology for 11 years. I recently left my job but I’ll always be a nurse. We love SMG!
The purpose of PTO is to provide for the parents’ active participation in the life of the school through a variety of social, service and fund-raising opportunities. It is also the purpose to foster a close relationship between parents, the school staff and the faith community for the good of our children.
Because of last year’s efforts, we are able to provide many fun events for the upcoming year. Our monthly meetings are held at 8am on a selected Thursday. We meet in the school cafeteria/Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome to join.
As always, the PTO will sponsor several fun-filled events throughout the year! Additionally, it’s important to note that none of these events happen without you, our parent volunteers. When we commit our time, talents and treasure to SMG’s School, we are rewarded by strengthening our school’s community. You can help with classroom parties, volunteer to help set-up and/or staff a PTO event, or help to sell SCRIP. The opportunities are endless and with lots of volunteers the burden is light. Check out the school calendar or watch your email for the next chance to join in!
Thank you for supporting our events and programs at SMG. I’m looking forward to our first day back on Thursday, August 13, 2020! If you have any questions, please contact me at 502-836-0415 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
