Developing the Whole Child in Mind, Body, Spirit.
Let it be known to all who enter here that Jesus Christ is the reason for this school, the unseen but ever present teacher in all its classes, the model for its faculty, and the inspiration for its students.
In building the Kingdom of God, each student at Saint Maria Goretti Catholic School will learn more about and encompass the essence of these Angel Rocks:
- Common Sense
- Best Effort
Saint Maria Goretti (SMG) is a vibrant, growing Catholic school located in Westfield, Indiana. We are a member of the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana, which has twenty elementary schools and two high schools in twenty-four counties. The four Diocesan elementary schools in Hamilton County form the Carmel Deanery.
Our state-of-the-art facility, built in 1996, currently houses 525 students in Preschool through Eighth Grade. These students are served by twenty-five certified teachers, three part-time nurses, one administrator, one administrative assistant, one receptionist, three cafeteria employees, and two maintenance workers. In addition to our school staff, we are blessed with numerous parent volunteers who enhance the curriculum with their expertise in a variety of fields.
Our school population reflects the makeup of our local community. Westfield is a fast growing, desirable suburban community of over 30,000 residents located north of Indianapolis in Hamilton County. Westfield became a city on January 1, 2008. A special census in 2006 revealed rapid growth of over 100% since 2002. The population is predominately Caucasian. The median age is thirty-five with the majority of residents attaining a Bachelor’s degree. The median income is $85,659.00 annually, with seventy-three percent of the population having managerial, white collar, professional occupations.
Due to SMG’s close proximity to Indianapolis, there are many cultural and educational opportunities available for our students. These include Junior Achievement, Ruth Lilly Health Center, museums, and the State Capitol. These and many other sites give us ample opportunities to enhance our curriculum.
